Latium (Lazio) is a region in Central Italy, on the Tyrrhenian side of the peninsula, except for a small strip on the Adriatic side. Lying to the west on the Tyrrhenian Sea, this region borders to the north with Tuscany, with Umbria and for a short stretch with the Marches. To the east Latium borders with Abruzzo and briefly with Molise and with Campania to the south; within its present limits it has not, however, geographical unity.
History. The morphology of Latium is very complex but four main sub-regions can be defined: the Tyrrhenian coast, the inland plains, the mountains of the Latium Pre-Apennines and a true Apennine area. The coast is mainly low and uniform, broken only by the spurs of Linaro point, Mount Circeo (541 m.) and the Gaeta headland: the Ponzian Islands, which are part of Latium, lie opposite the south coast.

I Cammini della Religione - Frosinone nel Lazio
Tempo di Giubileo, tempo di fede. E la Ciociaria e' terra profondamente religiosa. Basterebbero a dimostrarlo i numerosissimi santuari diffusi in tutta la provincia. Il piu' famoso e' quello della Madonna del Canneto, in Val di Comino, ma ognuno dei tanti luoghi di culto popolare e' intimamente connesso con la storia dei paesi limitrofi e a volte anche di aree piu' vaste. Ma certo e' possibile disegnare un itinerario che unisca i luoghi della Ciociaria in cui si e' fatta una parte importante della storia della cristianita'. Ad Anagni, per esempio, nacquero ben quattro Papi: Innocenzo III, Gregorio IX, Alessandro IV e Bonifacio VIII. Nel '200 e '300 divenne centro privilegiato di residenza papale, tanto da meritarsi l'appellativo di "citta' dei Papi", e vi si svolsero importanti avvenimenti storici (assai noto e' l'episodio dello "schiaffo di Anagni").
